 PILLOW GIFTS for arrival

Souvenirs from Russia are your momentos from an adventure.

We are pleased to offer fine hand-crafted traditional Russian gifts and souvenir items.

We feature hand painted Russian «matryoshka» nesting dolls and eggs, «Golden Khokhloma» style wooden tableware and lacquered jewelry boxes; along with many other fine examples of traditional Russian folk art from the regions around St. Petersburg, Moscow, Semenov, Nishniy Novgorod, Sergiev Posad, Nolinsk, and Maidan.

In Russia you'll find souvenirs that fit your personality, the style of your home, and your budget.

Several suggestions. Rates include delivery to the hotel.

— Book of St. Petersburg in hard cover;

  • Matryoshka Doll.

These dolls, also known as Russian nesting dolls, are a favorite Russian souvenir. They come in the traditional styles—girls with flowered dresses and headscarves—or more whimsical designs. The more intricately painted and the more dolls nested, the higher the price.

— Bottle of Russian Vodka inside Matreshka;

-Khokhloma Souvenirs.

This gorgeous folk art is often scoffed at as being too common for the discerning tourist, but the typical red, gold, and black floral and berry designs date back hundreds of years. These symbolic colors were originally used for religious purposes. The designs on Khokhloma bowls, spoons, or other objects are hardly ordinary—it’s possible to find ones that rival even Gzhel ceramic designs!

— Russian hand-made dolls in traditional national costumes.

Heads and hands of dolls are made of porcelain and hand painted. These dolls are dressed in national costumes which reflect traditions of specific regions of old Russia.

— Lacquer boxes are special Russian souvenirs.

Lacquer miniatures and boxes from Russian Palekh, Mstera, Kholui and Fedoskino are known all over the world. Traditions of lacquer box painting came to Russia from the Western countries in 17century. Since the beginning of 19 century there were many Russian native factories that produced lacquered articles painted in own styles. Old traditions of lacquer box painting still are alive.

and other souvenirs of high quality.

-Fur-Hat.

An ushanka is a Russian fur cap with ear flaps that can be tied up to the crown of the cap, or tied at the chin to protect the ears from the cold. In the English-speaking world, it is referred to as a shapka, from the Russian language word for «hat». Ushanka literally translates as «ear-flaps hat». Though Russian hat ushankas are a distinctly Russian hat the wearing of fur caps of similar design is common throughout China, Eastern Europe and the former Soviet Union. Ushankas are also seen in American cities during cold winter months, especially in cities that have a sizeable East European immigrant population. In 1991, with the fall of the Soviet Union came the first wave of commercially imported Russian winter hats into the United States. Ushankas are often made from cheap sheepskin (tsigeyka), rabbit or muskrat fur, though artificial fur hats are also manufactured. Artificial fur has sometimes been referred to as «fish fur» since the material has no relation to any real fur.

Walking along JEWELS OF RED SQUARE:

The word «Kremlin» in Russian means fortress, and in early Russia every important town had a fortress encircled by a wall where the main buildings, churches, and cathedrals were located and protected. The Moscow fortress, the cradle of the city, is the main fortress in the country and has been designated by UNESCO as a World Heritage Site. Built in the 12th century, it took the form we know today in the 15th century. It is an excellent reflection of the different stages of Russian art; a single monumental center of architecture, painting, and decorative and applied arts. The best craftsmen and artists worked on its churches, cathedrals, and palaces, bequeathing to us their priceless work framing the power and fame of Russia that is concentrated in its unforgettable alleyways and different sections. The Kremlin is even today the seat of some of the main political and religious government bodies: the President’s Palace, different administrative and military buildings such as the Senate and Armoury, and also numerous churches and cathedrals. Its walls, 19 meters high and 2235 meters long, tower above the Moskva River and Red Square and are made from eight kilogram bricks. We will visit the fortress, enjoying the view of the world’s biggest «tsar bell», forged in 1733, and the «tsar cannon», one of the biggest guns ever made in the entire world. Forged in 1586 by Andrew Chokhov, its purpose was to defend the gate of the Spasskaya tower, though it has never been used. The Cathedral Square is an architectural jewel, flanked by the Dormition Cathedral, the Cathedral of the Annunciation, and the Cathedral of the Archangel.

10:45 Morning Kremlin Territory & Cathedrals Visit

It is the best known of kremlins (Russian citadels) and includes four palaces, four cathedrals and the enclosing Kremlin Wall with Kremlin towers. The complex serves as the official residence of the President of Russia. Within the Kremlin there is a Cathedral Square, the so-called «City of God». Six buildings, including 3 three enormous cathedrals edge the square. Most of them, the work of Italian architects during the late 15th and early 16th Century. The Armory building built in 1851 as a factory for making weapons nowadays houses a museum, in which an enormous collection of Russian national treasures, including the famous Faberge eggs, carriages, cookware, jewelry, etc. is on display. The State Historical Museum is located outside the walls. Entry fee includes the visit to the Kremlin Territory and 3 cathedrals.

In the course of its centuries-old history the name of the museum and its administration have changed lots of times. Design idea was to create a relevant and delicate ensemble of ultra-modern spatial architecture and nostalgic notes, which themselves represent the theme of the kitchen the culinary masterpieces of the Soviet era. At the same time, designers wanted to pay tribute to the past: both the history of the place itself, and the heritage of the Russian avant-garde, art deco and the era of conquest of the cosmos.  Meeting with Cosmonaut (one of 260 who have been in Open Space)

The Star City, located in approximately an hour drive from Moscow center (a tranfer with a police escort can be organized upon request and recommended when the timing is important), is a unique and world-famous center for cosmonaut's training as well as their living and working residence location. Do not miss an opportunity to meet and have an exciting conversation with a real cosmonaut either during a visit to Star City (on-site, normally organized at MIR station) or afterwards, at any off-site venue: during breakfast at the hotel, lunch/dinner at the restaurant etc. During this informal meeting, the guests can ask cosmonaut anything they would like to know about Space.  13:30 Lunch at Shinok restaurant (Authentic MaloRussian Food)

The restaurant was opened in 1997 by AndraiDellos and soon earned a reputation as «the best example of Ukrainian culinary expertise in Moscow». All entices the guest to feel contentment from the comforting name Shinok (a term coined during the revolution for a cozy crossroad tavern) or the authentic cuisine to the unique interior and most importantly the location – situated in KrasnoPresnya opposite the international trade center.

The revamp of Shinok came from the desire of the restaurant management (MaisonDellos) to not only serve fantastic food but to also be hip. Today’s trend is a fusion of classical national cuisine and new culinary technologies along with a fine modern interior. «Instead of a ‘Gogolesque style tavern’ one is now presented with an impressive loft equipped with an open kitchen and grill» claim the project’s designers. The restaurant now breathes an air of space and light due to the newly fitted window installations but maintains loyality to its roots with the refurbished 19th century brickwork and old unrefined wooden floors.

The guests can see the original appearance of the factory space of the 19th century. The historic brickwork was restored and cleaned up from many layers of plaster.

The counter of the open kitchen consists of two parts – technical part is covered with darkened metal and guest part is made of polyurethane imitating cast-iron. Atrium – internal light courtyard – is one of the most remarkable features of «Shinok».  12:30 WINTER HORSE SLEDGES ride in snow park

The Russian troika,is a Russian carriage or sleigh turnout, which became a symbol of Russia. What is more, it joined many languages. Foreigners who tried riding a troika, all said that the experience was unforgettable for the breath-taking speed of such a dashing ride. The Russian troika, incarnating the generous Russian soul and nature, turned into a symbol of Russia.

The troika's origin is rooted in the expanse of the country and the necessity of overcoming long and difficult paths at great speed. Three horses pulled the mail coach or the nobleman's carriage easier and faster.

In summer the troika is driven on wheels, in winter as a sleigh. As there is snow half the year round in many regions of Russia, driving the troika with a sleigh is more popular even in summer. The center horse moves in an extended straight forward trot, while the horses on either side gallop smoothly and swinging with outward bent heads. This produces the harmony of movement, which reminds one of a three–headed bird hovering in the air. The driver has four reins in his hands, two for the center horse and one each for the outside horses.

The way takes about 25 — 30 minutes. Before the Troikas a shot of vodka and a canapé with red caviar may be served (supplement).

At one and the same time maximum 30 — 33 pax may participate in the Troika Horse ride from museum to restaurant. The itinerary of riding may be changed due to the weather conditions in the park. We arrange one horse with a carriage or three horses in the carriage which does not influence the price. The tour highly depends on the weather conditions and can be arranged all over the year.

22:00 BACKSTAGE Dinner at Restaurant REPA (Repetition)

The Repa, serving Russian cuisine, has opened on the site of legendary restaurant Backstage, once a favourite haunt of St. Petersburg’s bohemian theatre community. The name is no accident: «repa» is Russian for turnip, a staple in the diet of ancient Slavs, and a distinct feature of Russian cuisine.

The restaurant’s interior combines seemingly disconnected features, such as Scandinavian minimalism, theatrical fantasy, and modern elements. The concrete walls are adorned with murals inspired by the work of artist Andrey Remnev, and works of modern art are on display throughout the space. The furniture design also reflects this style: simple items sit beside complex, whimsical pieces, and elements of the wall art are repeated in the embroidery on the chairs. Historic autographs of brilliant figures from the arts world, such as Maya Plisetskaya, Placido Domingo, Diana Vishneva, and Mihail Chemiakin have been preserved on the walls.

With a focus on produce and provenance, the restaurant’s short menu features interesting ingredients from different regions of Russia and other Eurasian Customs Union countries.

It takes his guests on a unique gastronomic journey, inviting them to rediscover long forgotten tastes and try something new. Every dish on the menu is made using authentic produce and seasonal ingredients, making them truly unique. When it comes to wine, it is worth noting that Ginza Project’s sommelier has put together a unique collection of Russian wines and spirits for The Repa that may be regarded as one of the largest in the city. The Repa is a distinctive restaurant with an inspiring atmosphere, where time passes imperceptibly.

1/ Metro Tour St. Petersburg — The deepest metro in the world

The first plans to build a metro in St. Petersburg were drawn in 1899, but were not implemented due to the outbreak of WWI and then the Revolution of 1917. In 1941, 8 years after the Moscow metro was opened, building was started on the Leningrad metro, but a few months later the U.S.S.R. was forced to enter WWII. After the war the construction work resumed and the first metro line (from Avtovo to Ploschad Vosstania) was opened on November 15, 1955. Since then the metro network has grown to five lines with an average of 1.9 km (1.19 miles) between its 62 stations.

Subway stations exhibit many typical Soviet designs and features exquisite decorations and artwork making it one of the most attractive and elegant metros in the world. Due to the city's unique geology, the Saint Petersburg Metro is the deepest metro system in the world. Serving nearly three million passengers daily, it is also one of world's busyest metro system.

During the guided tour around the Metro you will visit the the most beautiful stations: Ploshad Vosstania, Vladimirskaya, Avtovo, Nevsky Prospect and other stations.

Duration of the tour is 1 hour.

Recommend to combine with Farmer’s market visit and Orthodox Church Ceremony.

Small Groups of 10 -15 persons each.

 2/ Farmers Market visit (Kuznechny)

Kuznechny Market in St. Petersburg, Russia is a site not to miss.

A trip to the Kuznechny Market is an experience in itself, never mind the need to buy anything. Probably the best of its type in the city. The first indoor market of the city was Kuznechnyy, which was established in 1927. Caucasian vendors aggressively promote their wares to hapless passer-bys, in a way that only market traders know how.

The current five-domed church was built next to Vladimirsky Market between 1761 and 1769. The church's design, frequently ascribed to Pietro Antonio Trezzini, straddles the line betweenBaroque and Neoclassicism. The building has two stories, with the lower church dedicated to Saint John Damascene. The detached belfry is a fine work of mature Neoclassicism, built toQuarenghi's design in 1791. The portico, chapel, fence, and outbuildings were added in the 19th century. The interior of the church features an elaborate Baroque iconostasis, transferred from the Anichkov Palace chapel in 1808. When the 900th anniversary of the Christianisation of Russia was celebrated in 1888, the church underwent restoration. The most famous of its parishioners was Fyodor Dostoevsky.

 4/ Kazan Cathedral

Whilst taking a stroll along Nevsky Prospekt you cannot fail to notice the impressive Cathedral of Our Lady of Kazan. Kazan Cathedral, constructed between 1801 and 1811 by the architect Andrei Voronikhin, was built to an enormous scale and boasts an impressive stone colonnade, encircling a small garden and central fountain. The cathedral was inspired by the Basilica of St. Peter’s in Rome and was intended to be the country’s main Orthodox Church.

After the war of 1812 (during which Napoleon was defeated) the church became a monument to Russian victory. Captured enemy banners were put in the cathedral and the famous Russian Field Marshal Mikhail Kutuzov, who won the most important campaign of 1812, was buried inside the church.

The cathedral was named after the «miracle-making» icon of Our Lady of Kazan, which the church housed till the early 1930s. The Bolsheviks closed the cathedral for services in 1929, and from 1932 it housed the collections of the Museum of the History of Religion and Atheism, which displayed numerous pieces of religious art and served anti-religious propaganda purposes. A couple of years ago regular services were resumed in the cathedral, though it still shares the premises with the museum, from whose name the word «atheism» has now been omitted.
