Andy Warhol's works and how they influenced Russian art will be shown in St. Petersburg

Warhol is being taken to St. Petersburg! Already in June, Sevkabel Porto will show album covers, a series of famous Polaroid photographs, posters, anti-films and other works of the artist - and how they influenced Russian art.

The Andy Warhol and Russian Art project revisits the work of one of the most prominent personalities of the 20th century and analyzes the impact of his pop art on Russian artists of several generations. Films and music of that time, as well as the attributes of the cult of consumption, which most of all occupied the artist, will immerse in the atmosphere of the 60-70s and Warhol's aesthetics, tell about the main signs of the era.

The exhibition will include more than 100 works by Warhol, including pop portraits of Marilyn Monroe, Mao and Liz Taylor, Campbell's soup cans, as well as rarer exhibits, such as one of his sculptures Brillo Box - an object of plywood boxes identical to boxes from supermarkets with stencil consumer product logos.

The exposition will include covers of music albums designed by the artist, including for the legendary The Rolling Stones, posters, magazines and the famous series of Warhol Polaroid photographs. Warhol's work as a director will also be shown - the exhibition will feature fragments of his films, including the experimental series of "anti-films" Kiss (1963), Eat (1963), Sleep (1963), Haircut's paintings that stopped time Empire (1964) and series Screen Test black and white portrait films shot between 1964 and 1966.

Each section of the exhibition will feature works by Russian artists whose work has been influenced in one way or another by Warhol. The project will show Moscow conceptualists Yuri, key figures in Russian Social Art Alexander Kosolapov and Komar & Melamid, avant-garde works by Igor Shelkovsky, installations RECYCLE GROUP, multimedia art by Aristarkh Chernyshev, shocking works by Mamyshev-Monroe and Oleg Kulik, a series of photographs "Natasha" by Evgenia Medvedeva-Ma, experimental art of Olga Tobreluts and Vladimir Potapov, and many others.

The exhibition "Andy Warhol and Russian Art" will be held from June 18 to September 19 in the public space "Sevkabel Port" at 40 Kozhevennaya Line. Open from Monday to Sunday from 10:00 to 22:00. On weekdays, the entrance ticket is 500 rubles, the reduced ticket - 300. On weekends and holidays - 800 rubles, the reduced ticket - 500.

As part of this initiative key players of city tourism industry receive a special sign Safe Travels SPB, recognizing them as organizations implemented health and hygiene protocols that are aligned with WTTC’s Global Safe Travels Protocols.

For tourists, this sign is a guarantee that the services provided by city tourism organizations meet the requirements of sanitary hygienic standards and safety standards. By receiving the Safe Travels SPB sign, city tourism organizations become participants of the unified Saint Petersburg marketing program to promote the city as the safe destination for travel. 

 

 Saint Petersburg joins the word Safe Tourism movement, becoming the first city in Russia which developed and offered its solutions for safe stay in the city.

The Committee for tourism development of Saint Petersburg has developed and agreed with the Russian Federal Service for Surveillance on Consumer Rights Protection and Human Wellbeing (Rospotrebnadzor) safety standards for city tourism organizations. The documents contain basic requirements for sanitary conditions, access features, and other necessary measures. All organizations will have to ensure compliance with standards and post information about its implementation on their official websites before starting work.

Implementation of these actions and a special sign issued by WTTC to Saint Petersburg – Saint Petersburg Safety Stamp/Safe Travels SPB  – allow Saint Petersburg to be a destination which guarantees safeness and wellbeing for tourists.
