2018 FIFA World Cup in Russia!
Russia has won the race to host the 2018 FIFA World Cup. After evaluating the competing bids in Zurich on Thursday 2 December 2010, the 22 members of the FIFA Executive Committee chose Russia as host nation for the tournament in eight years’ time.
Games will be held in thirteen different Russian cities — some of the biggest, the most famous, and the most historic. Russia's plan for construction works and improved facilities in host cities fits FIFA's long-term plans of developing the sport, especially in regions with outdated infrastructure.
Russia already has experience in hosting major football events, most notably the rain-drenched 2008 Champions League final between Manchester United and Chelsea and the 1999 UEFA Cup final.
Putin's promise to scrap visas for visitors was of crucial importance as nationals of almost all countries outside the former Soviet Union require visas to visit Russia.
