Tsar Events' RUSSIA SURVIVAL GUIDE with Maya Krivchenia: Kazan Cathedral in St. Petersburg — must visit place when you are in beautiful Northern Capital of Russia. You can enjoy vieo about this unforgettable place using this link.
Whilst taking a stroll along Nevsky Prospekt you cannot fail to notice the impressive Cathedral of Our Lady of Kazan. Kazan Cathedral, constructed between 1801 and 1811 by the architect Andrei Voronikhin, was built to an enormous scale and boasts an impressive stone colonnade, encircling a small garden and central fountain. The cathedral was inspired by the Basilica of St. Peter’s in Rome and was intended to be the country’s main Orthodox Church. After the war of 1812 (during which Napoleon was defeated) the church became a monument to Russian victory. Captured enemy banners were put in the cathedral and the famous Russian Field Marshal Mikhail Kutuzov, who won the most important campaign of 1812, was buried inside the church. The cathedral was named after the «miracle-making» icon of Our Lady of Kazan, which the church housed till the early 1930s. The Bolsheviks closed the cathedral for services in 1929, and from 1932 it housed the collections of the Museum of the History of Religion and Atheism, which displayed numerous pieces of religious art and served anti-religious propaganda purposes. A couple of years ago regular services were resumed in the cathedral, though it still shares the premises with the museum, from whose name the word «atheism» has now been omitted. Opened everyday. Excursions can be organized 12 am — 5 pm. Taking pictures & filming are not permited. Location: Nevsky Prospekt, Kazanskaya Square, 2.
Maya Krivchenia grew up in a small Appalachian town in southeastern Ohio. After attending Eastman School of Music for her undergraduate degree in vocal performance, Krivchenia went on to the Ohio State University to do her master’s degree in vocal performance. In 2005 she won a Fulbright Fellowship to come to Russia and study Russian opera and art song at the Mariisnky Theater’s Academy of Young Singers. After finishing her master’s she returned to St. Petersburg where has been living, working, and singing ever since. Every year Krivchenia gives many solo concerts and returns the United States to give charity concerts when her schedule allows.

PETRUSHA RUSSIAN RESTAURANT
At the intersection of Konnogvardeysky Boulevard, 4 and Konnogvardeysky Lane, the restaurant of Russian cuisine Petrousha (Petrusha) was opened. The former barracks of the Life Guards of the Equestrian Regiment have thus finally turned into, perhaps, the most famous restaurant address of the Northern Capital. Petrousha restaurant has 3 halls for 160 seats: a living room (40 seats), a craft hall (64 seats) and a fireplace hall (56 seats), children's room is present. Antique furniture, antique interior items, engravings of Petersburg, drawings of the majestic buildings of the young capital, portraits of outstanding people of Peter's time, soft music, elegant lamps, smoke ceramics and Dulev tea set — the interior and the atmosphere of the restaurant seem to transfer guests during the youth of the great Emperor, the era of Peter Ensembles and the Grand Embassy «Petrousha» – so, according to legend, they affectionately called Peter I abroad during the time of the Great Embassy – Russia’s diplomatic mission to Western Europe in the late 17th century. Her mother, Natalia Kirillovna Naryshkina, whom Peter loved all his life, also called it in his childhood. This tender childish name gave the innovator-king the strength to withstand the burdens of state affairs, to which he aspired from infancy. That is why Petrushi’s child’s image was chosen as the emblem of Petrushi, but on horseback (albeit small and wooden for the time being) and with a saber (albeit toy): all the glory of government and the weight of power are still ahead of him. The restaurant also hosts master classes on modeling pelmeni for tourist groups. The event includes sculpting ravioli and vareniki, tasting homemade infusions and products.
