RUSSIA’S LARGEST WATER PARK TO OPEN IN ST.PETERSBURG
In November of 2011 new water park will open in St. Petersburg, which will be the largest in Russia. Water park will be part of a new sports and entertainment complex «Piterland», and will take 25,000 square meters. It will have an exciting water rides and slides, a surf simulator, a swimming pool for diving and much more. On near-by a recreation center will be located with different types of saunas and steam baths. The roof with the dome shape, covered with a modern heavy-duty coating, which lets through ultraviolet rays, will allow visitors to take sunbaths all year round — on those rare days when the sun shines in St. Petersburg. Moreover the new complex with total area of 225 thousand square meters, will include a tennis club, a school of yoga, dance studio, a bowling club, a fitness center with 25-meter swimming pool and magnificent views over the bay.

SOCHI PLANS TO WELCOME ALMOST THREE MILLION TOURISTS THIS SUMMER
Russia’s Black Sea resort, Sochi, plans to welcome at least 2.8 million guests in summer. Despite the preparations for the 2014 Winter Olympic Games, the resort sector is a priority for local administration.
Summer season in 2011 will begin a month earlier, than usually – on May 14. Before the swimming period begins, the city will launch a major promotional campaign in Russia’s cities, which population exceeds one million.
CRUISE TOURISM FOR EVERYBODY
The third stage of passenger port construction, which was 18 billion rubles in cost, is almost complete, and in May of this year the ownership of «Marine Facade» will be granted to St. Petersburg. This port is used for cruise and ferry vessels with the length up to 311 metres and draught up to 9 metres. The length of new channel is 10 kilometres with the depth of 11 metres. New port has four terminals — one ferry and three cruise and in total 7 berths: five cruisers, one ferry and one cruise- ferry berth. With the completion of the construction number of the port arrivals to St. Petersburg will increase.In 2011, «Marine Facade» plans to accept 211 cruise ships and 110 ferries. For instance in 2010, the port accepted 187 cruise ships and 74 ferries. Compared with last year passenger traffic will increase from 368 thousand to 429 thousand people.
FINLAND RAILWAY STATION WILL UNDERGO MAJOR RECONSTRUCTION
Russian Railways have decided to create stations of the future. The Finland Station in St. Petersburg will be one of the first to undergo those changes. According to general construction plan it is planned to build above platforms of the station a large shopping and hotel complex, conference center, offices, parking- on the roof, bus station and a heliport deck.
The first stage of reconstruction of the Finland station began in May 2010. Next year, Russian Railways will begin the second phase of reconstruction, it will include the construction of shopping complex. At the same time, local authorities want to create a fully functional hub around the Finland station – which is supposed to combine railway, public transport, subway and upcoming bus station. It is expected that the hub will also include water trolley station and a heliport deck.
Passenger traffic at the station has grown due to the launch in December of last year of a high-speed train «Allegro» on the route St.Petersburg — Helsinki. As a result, the number of Finnish tourists arriving to the city increased by 20% and, according to expectations in 2011 amount will be close to 5 million people.
FABERGE MASTERPIECES ARE NOW DISPLAYED IN THE MOSCOW KREMLIN MUSEUMS
An exhibition of Faberge jewelry and his contemporaries opens in Moscow. The exposition will also feature items from the famous Cartier collections. Starting from tomorrow everyone will be able to see unique treasures at Moscow Kremlin Museum. Must see of an exhibition are six imperial Easter eggs created by Faberge which became a real masterpieces among his work. The displays for this exhibition were collected all over Russia.
RUSSIAN RAILWAYS HAVE STARTED SCREENING LUGGAGE OF "SAPSAN" PASSEGERS', BOTH IN MOSCOW AND IN ST.PETERSBURG
Russian Railways (RZD) has launched the work of «Sapsan» passengers' luggage screening zone, at Leningrad Station in Moscow and at Moscow Station in Saint Petersburg. Starting from this week exits on the platform for boarding and alighting Sapsan passengers were installed with pavilions with special equipment for a non-contact inspection of baggage and hand luggage. At the preliminary stage of this project screening of passengers will be selective,nevertheless Russian Railways, asks “Sapsan» passengers to arrive at the stations beforehand, since inspection may take some time.
CZECH VISA CENTER OPENS IN ST. PETERSBURG
On April 1st Czech Visa Center was opened in St. Petersburg. The new institution has already begun its work, and its staff is already accepting clients. The center will operate from Monday to Friday from 09.00 to 16.00 (Moscow time) and serve tourist companies as well as private individuals. Changes in the process of filing documents or payment will be applied. However, customers will have to pay 1 thousand rubles for services provided.
GERHARD MITROVITS-APPOINTED AS DIRECTOR OF KEMPINSKI HOTELS IN RUSSIA AND CIS COUNTRIES
Gerhard Mitrovits was appointed as Director of Kempinski hotels for Russia and CIS countries. Gerhard Mitrovits, who before was appointed as director of the Baltchug Kempinski Moscow Hotel, has once again proved his credibility of a successful hotelier and became an ideal candidate for the director position for the region. Mr. Mitrovits will combine his new appointment with former responsibilities of the director of the hotel.
NEW PASSENGER TRAIN TO LINK MOSCOW, BERLIN AND PARIS
A new passenger train shall be introduced by Russia’s Railways, to link Moscow, Berlin and Paris.
The regular train connection between Moscow and Nice, initiated last year, has already proven its relevance. The transport demand is stably high — at peak periods up to 90% - report the Russian railways.
As for the Moscow-Paris route, at present there is only one through-train connecting the Russian and French capitals.
The exact date when the new train connection will be operational is not yet revealed.
